Have you ever imagined what will become of eSports 20 years from now? Video gaming didn’t reach mainstream popularity until in the 1970s and 1980s despite been in existence for over two decades. It became more acceptable and embraced by the general public because video arcade games and gaming consoles using joysticks, buttons, and other controllers, along with graphics on computer screens were introduced.

Since the 1980s, video games have become accessible, and an integral part of the world’s modern culture for entertainment purposes. Ever since then, there’s being a transition of games across several generations; from LCD games to gradual increase from 8-bit units to 64-bit units consoles, to 3D video games, then online gaming and mobile games up until 2013 when the eighth generation of consoles emerged. This same way, eSports has gradually evolved.

With the progressive growth rate and future outlook of eSports, it is an industry that can not be overlooked even for the conservatives rather, and it is one to pay keen attention to, because eSports have come to stay, penetrate, expand and break records.

According to Newzoo reports, the global revenue streams for 2019 eSports Market surpasses $1 Billion; “The year 2019 marks a major milestone for the global eSports market, which will for the first time exceed the billion-dollar revenue mark. In fact, revenues will reach an impressive $1.1 billion in 2019, with a year-on-year growth of +26.7%. This is 82% of the total market ($897.2 million).”

So also, the global eSports viewers have maintained a year-on-year growth rate of +15.1%, which consist of eSports enthusiasts and occasional viewers with a year-on-year growth of +16.3% and +14.1% respectively alongside an estimated worldwide audience view of 453.8 million in 2019.

On this path, Newzoo also estimated that by 2022 eSports market will reach $1.8 billion; thus eSports is on a long upward ride, and as the popularity of competitive gaming (eSports) transcends, the opportunity around the eSports industry have never been higher as different traditional sports executives, sponsors, brands, marketers, and mainstream media are showing unrelenting interest in it.

Finally, it should really be noted that eSports have a high promise for growth both in the commercial and in the non-commercial context; as the number of enthusiasts and occasional viewers are growing fast, and capital invested into eSports by different investors starts to be in a similar range as in the traditional sports. It is imperative that you grab a cup of wine, a good one, sit back and see how you can benefit and contribute to the future of eSports.
